This #TravelTuesday, explore a temperate forest across time and seasons to discover what lives within. 🌳 With aspen trees towering overhead, much of the wildlife in this temperate forest lives closer to its floor. Hidden amidst the rocks and twigs are clues to what creatures live here year round. 🐾 In the fall, the ground is hidden by colorful leaves. These fallen leaves create layers on the forest floor and slowly decompose into a nutrient rich habitat for insects, worms, other invertebrates and microbes. 🍂 As winter descends on the forest with a blanket of snow, what animal could be creating tracks like these? ❄️ Meanwhile, deeper in the forest runs a freshwater mountain stream — home to microorganisms like plankton, salamanders, snakes and freshwater fish.
