Have you ever stopped to think what happens when someone books an accessible hotel room they don’t actually need?
ADA hotel rooms are actually “bare minimum” for most disabled people. Usually we STILL have to “manage” some of these amenities and most hotels have VERY LIMITED amounts of these rooms readily available.
So… If you don’t require one, please don’t book it. Hotels usually only have a few of these rooms and they are essential for people with disabilities who rely on them.
Traveling with a disability is already challenging. Accessibility should be a given, not an afterthought, but until we get there, we can all do our part. 💜
Having a large family or wanting extra space isn’t reason enough to take an accessible room. When that happens, people like me who truly need them often get left without options.
I wish hotels regulated this better and I also wish they created more of these rooms for the people who depend on them.
