It ain’t all fun and games, I can assure you 😂😂
One of the hidden challenges of living with a spinal cord injury is pressure sores (or pressure injuries). They happen when skin breaks down from sitting too long in one position, which is a constant risk for wheelchair users.
This is why we do pressure reliefs — leaning side to side, forward, or tilting back to take pressure off.
Cushions matter too: air, gel, foam… each gives a different kind of support. And then there are the chairs themselves — power, manual, tilt-in-space. All of it affects skin health.
The catch? The right cushion or chair can cost thousands, and even with insurance, many of us pay out of pocket just to protect something as basic as our skin. Because when skin integrity is compromised, the result can be infections, hospital stays, or surgery.
It’s one of those invisible battles you don’t see, but it shapes our lives every day.
