I used to shy away from posting full-length photos or videos of myself in the early days of my injury. Then I realized I needed to take my power back. Society doesn’t get to dictate how I show up.
Actually, my mindset needed to change.
I wanted to be my full self. I wanted to be the face that shows up when someone searches “spinal cord injury” and sees a Black woman living fully.
Disability doesn’t have one face, one look, or one story. We’re humans, professionals, creators, athletes, students, moms, dads, aunties, dreamers. The world may expect limits, but every day we expand what’s possible.
So if you’re looking for a girl changing the face of disability… it’s me.
And if you’re still on the journey, give yourself grace. Your story is unfolding, and it’s just as powerful in the becoming.
