You ever notice how Blasians with Black moms usually grow up already knowing how to do their hair? Sitting on the floor between their legs, head tilted back, grease on the scalp, comb ready. It’s more than just hair. It’s culture. It’s those small lessons that teach you how to move through the world as a Black person. But for a lot of Blasians with Asian moms, especially first-gen ones (ME), it’s different. Their moms might look at their kid’s hair and be like… what do I do with this? They’re out here with the wrong brush, no conditioner, and a lot of confusion (or sometimes tryna give their kid a BOWL CUT - [ME😭]). Not because they don’t care, but because they’ve never had to deal with hair like that before. And it’s not just about the hair. It’s about the culture that comes with it. The language, the inside jokes, the body language, the things that connect you. Sometimes, when you don’t grow up with that, you have to find it later. Through friends, through community, through experie...
