One of the most amazing experiences we’ve ever shared as a family … and also a bit scary at the same time! It was an incredible thrill to share the Pacific Ocean with manta rays. They’re harmless and seen as protectors in Hawaiian culture. Mantas are believed to embody powerful spirits and are revered for their ancestral guardianship. Although there are many other boats around, it is a bit unnerving to be night swimming in the ocean. While my family was looking down, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t patrolling the waters around us. We had an incredible guide, Buddha, a Kona local who has records for diving with marine life. At one point, Grace clung to his leg and he did his best to settle our nerves. We went into the water with nine.. and then five ended up on top of the board! We lucked out with the diving company that had the board option! If you’re in Hawaii, I highly recommend this!
