To be perfectly honest, I still don’t understand it all but I do know that I got Louis Vuitton bags for less in Italy! The VAT tax is a value added refund tax that deals with taxes on the supply chain for goods that we don’t have in the US. Depending on the stores, you get a certain percentage of that back.. roughly 20-30% depending on the vendor. Here’s what to do… 1️⃣ When you shop, make sure to have your passport with you. 2️⃣ Once you pay, request the VAT tax form. The store will fill out the refund form and give you receipts in an envelope. Keep all of these somewhere safe. (If you’re in Venice, ask for @prince_.christian in Louis Vuitton. He was so sweet and helpful!) 3️⃣ When you leave the LAST city you are in in Europe, go to the CUSTOMS line at the airport. Here you will get all of your forms stamped and your receipts verified.
