Mom and dad... a Republican and a Democrat... married 50 years... 2 daughters... 12 grandchildren...and still dancing. My sister and I celebrated our parents' golden anniversary with a 1972 bridal outfit themed party in honor of their pink and blue wedding attire. My parents agree on certain issues, disagree on others, avoid social media and share a mutual appreciation for @thetemptations and @outkast . Their secret to success? "Dad doing his own laundry and golf.. let the man play golf.. he goes and then comes back." My dad jokingly thanked my mom for "tolerating his even tempered approach to life" and quipped that their success must be due to his rigid "openness for suggestions" for the things his wife and daughters ask him to do :) I summarize it as a mutual respect for differing opinions , a healthy support of each other's varied interests and the secret credit card my mom used to pay for prom dresses and highlights ...because my dad thinks everything should cost $50.
