In the Star Wars Expanded Universe (now Legends), Greedo wasn’t an experienced bounty hunter, but rather an impulsive rookie trying to earn respect among other hunters. In the story Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina, it’s revealed that Greedo grew up on Tatooine and was known for his bad temper and poor dueling skills. His confrontation with Han Solo was actually his first major mission, which explains why he reacted so clumsily and was killed within seconds. In The Clone Wars series, a younger Greedo appears, confirming that he came from a Rodian family with criminal ties dating back to the time of the Republic.
