#HurricaneMelissa has intensified to Category 5 strength in the Caribbean.
The US National Hurricane Center (nwsnhc_hurricanes) — which serves as WMO’s Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre — is forecasting severe winds, storm surge and heavy rainfall for Jamaica, with impacts expected to worsen through Monday and Tuesday.
Haiti and the Dominican Republic are also at risk of flash floods and landslides, while eastern Cuba may experience heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
WMO and its network of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services, including the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, are working together to support countries in the path of the storm, providing continuous forecasts, early warnings, and technical assistance to help protect lives and livelihoods.
➡️ These efforts reflect our shared commitment to
#EarlyWarningsForAll, ensuring that no one is left unprepared in the face of extreme weather.
