🌀 #HurricaneMelissa has intensified to Category 5 strength in the Caribbean. The US National Hurricane Center (nwsnhc_hurricanes) — which serves as WMO’s Regional Specialized Meteorological Centre — is forecasting severe winds, storm surge and heavy rainfall for Jamaica, with impacts expected to worsen through Monday and Tuesday. Haiti and the Dominican Republic are also at risk of flash floods and landslides, while eastern Cuba may experience heavy rainfall and localized flooding.
