Heartbreaking news. 😢💔 The Indigenous culinary community is mourning the loss of Joshua Qiyuk, a 21-year-old Inuk chef from Baker Lake, Nunavut, remembered for his kindness, dedication, and quiet brilliance in the kitchen. He began his journey at C’est Bon Ottawa (cestbonottawa), where mentors quickly saw his potential: “He worked hard and absorbed everything he could. He didn’t ask for anything. He just did the work and was grateful to do it.” Joshua later completed his Indigenous Cook Pre-Apprenticeship at Algonquin College (algonquincollege) and became a beloved member of Absinthe Café (absinthecafe). Joshua’s coworkers say he was walking home after his shift — smiling and saying he’d see them tomorrow. But he never made it home. Ottawa Police have since declared his death a homicide. We hate to see a promising young Indigenous life taken too soon. Prayers up and condolences to all his relations. 🤍🕊 (via cestbonottawa, absinthecafe, algonquincollege) #JoshuaQiyuk #Inuit...
