The Kano Hisbah, a religious police force in Nigeria, has arrested 25 people who were reportedly attending an alleged same-sex marriage ceremony.
The raid took place at an event centre in the Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State following a tip-off.
Hisbah officials stated they broke up the gathering on Saturday night.
The Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, confirmed the arrests: “Upon arrival, our personnel discovered a gathering of young men and women who appeared to be conducting a marriage ceremony.”
The Hisbah Board confirmed that all suspects are currently in custody and will be formally charged in court upon the conclusion of their investigation.
