The BBC has finally confirmed the future of Doctor Who, much to the relief of fans.
Following the end of the latest season, there were questions about whether we’d be getting anymore and, if so, when.
Those questions were answered when the BBC announced on Tuesday (28 October) that the long-running sci-fi series would be returning next year with a Christmas special, written by Russell T Davies. Plans for a new season will be revealed “in due course”.
It was also revealed that the partnership with Disney+ had ended.
Lindsay Salt, the director of drama for the BBC, said: “We’d like to thank Disney+ for being terrific global partners and collaborators over the past two seasons and for the upcoming [spin-off] The War Between the Land and the Sea."
“The BBC remains fully committed to Doctor Who, which continues to be one of our most-loved dramas and we are delighted that Russell T Davies has agreed to write us another spectacular Christmas special for 2026."
