Dr. May Lau has voluntarily given up her Texas medical license after becoming the first physician sued under the state of Texas’s ban on gender-affirming care for minors.
The lawsuit, filed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, accused the Lay of prescribing testosterone to minors.
Dr. Lau's attorney stated she decided to surrender the license because she is moving her medical practice to Oregon.
Dr Lau has denied any wrongdoing and described the attorney general's allegations as "politically- and ideologically-driven." However, Paxton celebrated the surrender as a "major victory,".
The case was the first civil action brought under Senate Bill 14 (SB 14), a law passed in 2023 that prohibits doctors in Texas from prescribing hormone therapy or puberty blockers to minors for gender transition.
