French First Lady Brigitte Macron’s personal tax records were hacked and altered to falsely identify her as male, according to her chief of staff, Tristan Bromet.
In an interview with French news channel BFMTV, Bromet revealed that hackers changed her name in the government system to “Jean-Michel, known as Brigitte Macron,” referencing a long-running online conspiracy that claims Brigitte was born male.
The rumour asserts that Macron’s maiden name, Trogneux, belongs to a supposed male identity.
Bromet said the First Lady was “completely surprised” to discover the change when she logged into her account, adding that the section where her name appeared “can’t be changed” by users themselves.
Macron has since filed a formal complaint. Two individuals involved in the hack have been identified, according to Bromet.
