Bismarck Kingfisher, rediscovered in 2025, lost to science for 13 years The global Search for Lost Birds partnership between americanbirdconservancy, birdlife.international, and rewild works to understand and find species of birds that are lost to science. This means that at least 10 years have passed since a confirmed sighting with photographs or sound recordings. Across the planet, 121 bird species haven’t been seen in over a decade.
