The early 2000s slogan, “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels,” isn’t gone — it’s just been rebranded as
#SkinnyTok.
The hashtag is part of a larger subculture obsessed with losing weight, visible in trends like Ozempic use, body-checking and “what I eat in a day” videos.
Although the hashtag was banned in 2025 across TikTok, the impacts didn’t disappear with its removal.
Isabelle Fox, fourth-year international relations and School for Advanced Studies in the Arts & Humanities student, noticed a wider presence of
#SkinnyTok and diet culture after starting university — a shift from what she saw in high school.
“A lot of life became, ‘If I’m pretty, it’s easier. If I’m thin, it’s easier,’” says Fox.
