I’m heartbroken over the loss of Aleena Asif. The Asiyah Center and everyone who knew her are mourning deeply right now. No one should ever have to experience something like this. It’s painful, unfair, and it leaves a hole that can’t be filled. Things like this should not be happening. As a community, we need to take a hard look at ourselves and ask how we can do better. How we can show up for one another, really listen, and make sure no one ever feels alone or unsupported. Being better also means holding abusers accountable and standing up for those who are being hurt, even when it is uncomfortable or difficult. We owe that to each other. Aleena’s passing is a painful reminder that life is fragile and that compassion, love, and understanding have to be at the center of everything we do. My heart goes out to her family and loved ones.
