Besides it being Halloween today (and on this last Friday in October), we also celebrate #WorldLemurDay - in honour of one of Madagascar’s most recognizable and charismatic species 🐒 With their bright, curious eyes and signature black-and-white striped tails, this unique primates species is a true symbol of Madagascar’s rich biodiversity. Sadly, all 100+ lemur species which include the Ring-tailed lemur, continue to face serious threats from habitat loss, deforestation, and illegal hunting. That’s why as Guardians of Wild, protecting them has never been more important. Closer to home and here at your Toronto Zoo, we’re proud to care for a troop of 5 Ring-tailed lemurs who act as important ambassadors for their wild counterparts.
