For the second straight year, Canisius came from behind in the second half against its rival to become the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association champion and celebrate with the 1180bluecrew.
Hayden Cunningham ‘26 of Buffalo and Henry Smith ‘26 of Buffalo scored on penalty kicks in the second half for the 2-1 win over St. Joe’s. Smith was named the playoff MVP.
Canisius (15-1-1) dominated possession the entire game, but was behind 1-0 at halftime after St. Joe’s converted a breakaway in the game’s opening minutes.
Canisius, which went undefeated in the Monsignor Martin regular season, are headed back to the Catholic state championships, which are next weekend in New York City.
