Forever Young gives Japan a Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) win!
Trained by Yoshito Yahagi and ridden jockey Ryusei Sakai, the globetrotting son of Real Steel made history as the first Japanese-trained horse to win the Classic in the event’s 42-year history, defeating American rivals Sierra Leone and Fierceness.
Owner Susumu Fujita called winning the Classic “a dream.” After narrow defeats in both the 2024 Classic and last year’s dramatic Kentucky Derby photo finish, Forever Young finally found redemption. “With Fierceness and Sierra Leone retiring, this was the last chance to face them,” Fujita said through a translator.
