For years, the Phoenix nonprofit Keys to Change has run a mail room for thousands of homeless people. Now the U.S. Postal Service is cutting its contribution to the operation — about 20% of the mail room’s $117,000 budget — leaving the organization to raise the extra money to keep it open.
One advocate said the mail room is a small but “crucial part” of helping people exit homelessness. “It really is a priceless thing that we can offer to our clients.”
