Congressman Jim Costa (CA-21) held a news conference on Friday at the Central California Food Bank to unite Valley leaders in response to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) funding lapse resulting from the ongoing government shutdown.
SNAP, also known as CalFresh in California, is set to run out of funds on Saturday.
With nearly 30% of households in Congressman Costa’s district relying on SNAP, Valley families are left without critical food assistance next month.
As a result, veterans, seniors, children, and individuals with disabilities could be left without support to meet their most basic needs.
