President Donald Trump called on Republican Senators to implement the "nuclear option," which would entail ending the filibuster, in an effort to end the now 31 day government shutdown. In a pair of late night Truth Social posts made on Thursday, Trump accused the Democrats of having "gone stone cold 'crazy.'" "THE CHOICE IS CLEAR — INITIATE THE “NUCLEAR OPTION,” GET RID OF THE FILIBUSTER AND, MAKE AMERICA GREAT," Trump wrote in one post. House Speaker Mike Johnson was asked about Trump's suggestion to end the filibuster. "It's not my call," said Johnson. "I don't have a say in this. It's a Senate chamber issue. We don't have that in the House. But the filibuster has traditionally been viewed as a very important safeguard. If the shoe is on the other foot, I don't think our team would like it."
