Justice Smith addresses his initial ‘reservations' about playing a trans character in 'I Saw the TV Glow' Directed by trans filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun, Smith spoke on the Zach Sang Show and said he "had some reservations at first" and questioned director Schoenbrun on the decision not to cast a trans actor for the role. He explained that Schoenbrun clarified his casting as a cis person was being used "as kind of like a device for the structure of the movie," saying it "wouldn't necessarily make sense" if a trans actor were in the role.
