The West Highland Way Diaries: Day 7
It has been a little while since the last entry, partly because I am still in denial that this trip is over, and partly because fall has been a busy season.
After a much-needed night of showers and rest at Kinghouse, we enjoyed breakfast and set off on the trail once again. We had heard plenty of stories about the Devil’s Staircase and its daunting climb, but it really was not so bad. The real challenge came afterward, with a long, steep descent into Kinlochleven that punished our feet and, more notably, our egos.
In Kinlochleven, we treated ourselves to burgers at a local pub before refilling our candy salad one last time at the small co-op in town. From there, we climbed back into the mountains and found what might be the most wonderful campsite in the world. A gentle breeze and a clear night gave us, for once, a midge-free experience.
