#FeministArtFeature: On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, The Met’s American Wing, home to grand 19th-century visions of “America”, was reclaimed. In an unsanctioned AR intervention titled ENCODED: Change the Story, Change the Future, 17 Indigenous artists digitally overlaid their own works atop the museum’s colonial landscapes, transforming static depictions into living Indigenous presence. Curated by Tracy Renée Rector and an anonymous Indigenous curator in collaboration with Amplifier, ENCODED challenges who gets to define “America” and what stories are remembered or erased.
