David Beckham, one of Britain’s most celebrated footballers, was knighted by King Charles at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, in recognition of his decades-long contribution to sport and charitable work. The 50-year-old former England captain received the honor more than 20 years after first being awarded a royal distinction for his achievements in football. Beckham, a lifelong admirer of the royal family, attended the ceremony wearing a suit designed by his wife, Victoria Beckham, the fashion designer and former Spice Girls member. He and the King shared a brief but warm exchange, with Charles seen smiling and laughing as they spoke.
