Despite a $3 million marketing push, Lionsgate’s "Anniversary" opened on 800 screens and averaged just $325 per theater, grossing $259,180 over its opening weekend.
“It’s hard to market a political film today," producer Nick Wechsler told TheWrap. "People are afraid of them – they don’t know how it will be received emotionally. It’s a weird time.”
