Jamie Lynn Spears briefly went viral in 2021 after blaming Tesla for the deaths of her cats, calling the electric cars “too quiet” and claiming they were stealth hazards to pets. In a now-deleted Instagram video, she said, “Elon Musk, you owe me a couple cats,” and suggested Teslas emit sounds to warn animals—despite a 2020 law already requiring EVs to make noise for pedestrian safety. After online backlash and ridicule, she walked back her claims, admitting Tesla wasn’t at fault and “user error” was likely to blame. Ironically, a 2024 LendingTree study showed Tesla drivers top the list for most accidents per 1,000 drivers, suggesting Jamie Lynn may have unintentionally touched on a broader issue: it's often the driver, not the car.
