#Louisville Tuesday evening when a
#UPS cargo aircraft crashed shortly after taking off from Muhammad Ali International Airport. The incident occurred around 5:15 p.m. local time, according to the
#FederalAviationAdministration.
UPS confirmed there were three crew members on board at the time of the crash. “At this time, we have not confirmed any injuries/casualties,” the company shared in a statement. However, several outlets have reported that there were people deceased on the ground.
The aircraft, identified as a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, was headed for Honolulu. The cause of the crash remains unknown. Both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched a joint investigation to determine what went wrong.
The Louisville Metro Police Department issued a shelter-in-place order for neighborhoods near the crash site.
