At mile 98 of the Leadville Trail 100, Dr. Anne Flower did what no one expected: she sprinted.
In her first-ever 100-mile race, Anne wasn’t chasing records. Her only goal was to finish. But 17 hours and 58 minutes later, she crossed the finish line as the women’s champion, shattering a 31-year-old course record and finishing second overall.
Between long shifts in the ER at UCHealth Memorial Hospital Central, Anne finds her balance on the trails. The same calm and focus she brings to her patients helped her push through exhaustion, darkness and 15,000 feet of elevation gain across Colorado’s rugged peaks.
“Running is something I do out of pure enjoyment,” she says. “It keeps me grounded. It keeps me sane.”
