Fresh off her Breeders’ Cup victory, Shisospicy entered Monday’s Fasig-Tipton November sale as Hip 147 consigned by Gainesway, but when she didn’t meet her reserve, Morplay Racing bought out partners Qatar Racing for $5.2 million.
“It’s not a bad thing. For us, we wanted to continue to race her. We had a number in mind that we’d consider (to sell), but we just thought she’s gotten us this far. She’s a 3-year-old; give her another year,” Morplay co-founder Rich Mendez said by phone.
Morplay believes it has a rare gem, perhaps a once-in-a-lifetime filly.
