“Can I have the raw footage?” Sometimes I get asked that by social media managers and here’s why I usually say no. When you post raw footage online, it can make the page look less polished. People might look at your clips and think, why does it look so lifeless? Here’s the main thing — raw footage is designed that way on purpose. It’s flat because it’s meant to be color graded later. Without that process, even footage from a high-end camera will look dull. The goal of shooting in raw is to capture as much dynamic range as possible so you can shape the look afterward. So it’s best to only ask for raw footage if you plan to edit it, or if you have someone who can. Otherwise, just keep it stored, and when your next event comes around, you can send it to your editor to create something great out of it. Send this to someone who needs to hear it.
