THE SIX “S’s” FOR PICKING A PERFECT WATERMELON from
@kalejunkie 🍉! Save this post because watermelon season has officially arrived (here in California) and there is no excuse for picking a subpar watermelon now that you have these tips!
1. Spot - Pick up your watermelon and find the field spot. This is where the watermelon sat in the field! If there is no spot or if the field spot is white, don’t buy! That means it was picked before it was ripe. The field spot should be big and creamy, yellow.
2. Stem - The stem should be brown! If it is green, it was picked before it was ripe. Pass.
3. Shape - The shape should be nice and evenly shaped (round/oval).
4. Size - Pick up that bad boy and make sure it is HEAVY! That means it is nice and juicy! Too light? It was picked too early.
5. Sound - Next, knock on the watermelon! It should sound HOLLOW.
6. Skin - Last, look at the skin. The skin should be dull, and not shiny…just like the one in this video.
