HOW TO MAKE KALE EASIER TO DIGEST // follow
@kalejunkie for more tips! Kale can be hard to digest and that’s because it’s a much more fibrous green than say, romaine lettuce. So when it comes to salads at least (like the life-changing one I shared yesterday), GET YOUR HANDS IN THERE AND MASSAGE IT WITH SALT.
Why? The salt, combined with the force provided by your hands, draws water from the cells of the kale making it softer and easier to chew, which makes it easier to digest.
How long do you need to massage it? About 1 minute!
How much salt? 1-2 tsp and NO it won’t be too salty!
Note: some sources will say that you need to massage with lemon juice and/or oil, and while that’s fine, JUST USE SALT. It works perfect, and it helps remove some of the bitterness typically found in kale as well.
Other ways to make kale easier to digest: sauté it, steam it, or bake it. The tip I’m sharing is when you want to eat it raw, like in a salad.
