By chasingthemilk . We've left over 187,400 kg of waste on the moon so far, and thousands of pieces of human-caused space debris are being tracked as they orbit earth, in case of collision. In the wake of that, it's difficult to see space travel as other than an extension of the very colonialism that has, and is, causing our climate crisis. The idea that we have an inherent superiority or separation from the rest of nature - that through 'discovery' we have a right to 'conquer' or do with places as we wish - is a cancerous one. Knowing the wonder, stories and cultural practices that the skies have gifted to people for many millennia makes the littering of them all the more bitter. What would the world look like if, instead of pouring resources into phallic galactic displays of wealth - and space-technology with enormous potential to be used as instruments of control, those resources were poured into supporting ecosystems, communities, and protecting those who need to be protected? ...
