Take this with the consideration that there are many Native American nations throughout the Americas, with a wide variety of cultural practices. Short posts like this result in generalizations - these posts intend to inspire questions, and are not the entire lesson. A similar perspective could be extended to "agriculture", the legal definition of which was written to serve white settlers and assimilate Native peoples into an agrarian lifestyle built to extract from the land rather than steward it in perpetuity. Native people have been forced onto lands with poor soil/prospect of traditional cultivation - furthering the separation from cultural and ecological practices. We need to decolonize not only by physically returning land to Native peoples, but also by reconsidering our relationship with nature, our place within ecosystems (including that there is no separation between us and nature), and the ways in which we extract from the land - whether agriculturally or otherwise.
