The new Netflix limited series #DeathByLightning turns an under-explored historical episode into a fascinating portrait of the American Dream, according to TheWrap's Brandon Yu. At times, however, it feels like two different shows: a costume drama about dirty politics starring Michael Shannon and a kind of comedy about an idiot-turned-assassin starring Matthew McFadyen. Shannon stars as President James Garfield, with MacFayden as his eventual assassin Charles Guiteau. Betty Gilpin, meanwhile, plays Lucretia Garfield, with Nick Offerman as VP Chester A.
