More than 1,540 UC system faculty and staff, including 171 from UC Berkeley, have signed a petition calling for a delay in the mandated installation of cybersecurity software on university devices. In February 2024, then-UC President Michael Drake sent a letter to the UC system’s chancellors that mandated the installation of Trellix, an endpoint detection and response, or EDR, system, to “strengthen” the university’s “cybersecurity posture.” He added that failure to comply with the mandate would result in a 15% increase to that campus’s cyber insurance premium and costs of $500,000 could be incurred for “security incidents … that are a result of the failure to comply.” On Oct. 23, the American Association of University Professors and the Council of UC Faculty Associations sent a letter to the UC Office of the President, or UCOP, calling for a “halt to the use of Trellix.” Read more through the link in bio. ✍️: Litong Deng 📸: Ethan Mauk . . . #ucberkeley #dailycal #berkeley #trel...
