After 15 years in pediatric audiology and 42 years of lived experience, I’ve completely changed my mind about a few things regarding hearing technology.
What I once thought was true isn’t always the full story. Here’s what I know now:
1. Hearing aids aren’t the “easy fix.”
2. Cochlear implants don’t make someone “hearing.”
3. Louder isn’t always better.
4. One ear is not “good enough.”
5. The best device isn’t always the most expensive.
6. Babies can handle way more tech than we give them credit for.
7. Bluetooth is a game changer, even for toddlers.
8. Earmolds can be cute and functional.
9. Assistive tech isn’t just for school; it’s for life.
10. iPads/tablets can be accessibility tools, not just screen time.
Every one of these lessons came from years of listening, learning, and seeing what truly works for families and personally.
Which one surprised you the most? Or which one do you still want to learn more about? Tell me in the comments.
