‘Wicked’ star Marissa Bode’s introduction to her co-star’s rendition of ‘Defying Gravity’ was partially cut from the recent NBC TV special. The televised speech saw Bode say: “It’s connected with so many people from all over the world. I’m talking, of course, about ‘Defying Gravity’. The song is an ode to authenticity and about believing in yourself no matter what obstacles the world puts in your way.” After Bode’s introduction, Cynthia Erivo, who plays her on-screen sister in the film, then took to stage to perform the iconic song from the popular musical. However, according to Entertainment Weekly, in Bode’s full remarks she went on to say the song’s message of “authenticity” and “believing in yourself” also meant standing up to a “power-hungry dictator.” Now, who could that possibly be about? 👀 #Wicked #DefyingGravity #MarissaBode #wickedforgood #lgbtqia
