Appearing on Keke Palmer’s podcast ‘Baby, This Is Keke Palmer’, Khalid spoke about previously being closeted in the music industry and the impact that had on his psyche. He said: “What didn’t work for me was the anxiety I had… my anxiety when I wasn’t out was extremely bad because I was almost anticipating being outed. I was living in fear.” After Khalid was outed by his ex-boyfriend, Hugo D'Almonte, in November 2024 via social media, which led the singer to issue his own statement confirming his sexuality, Khalid said he’s been “extremely embraced by a new community”, even accumulating new fans.
