I was born in Baghdad, Iraq in 1941 to a Jewish family. My birth happened during a blackout and two-weeks before the horrific Farhud pogrom against the Jews of Iraq which took place over the Jewish festival of Shavuot. After the Farhud, my parents saw the writing on the wall and decided it was best for us all to leave Iraq for good.
