LIONS OUTLAST LANCERS IN THRILLER TO WIN CIF-SS TITLE: The jserra.girlsflagfootball team completed its undefeated 28-game journey in title-winning fashion on Saturday, as the Lions rallied to defeat Trinity League rival Orange Lutheran 25-20 to win the CIF-SS Division 1 championship game at Fred Kelly Stadium in Orange. The Lions grabbed a 7-0 lead with 4:23 remaining in the first quarter, as freshman quarterback Kate Meier eluded the Lancers rush and heaved a deep pass down the left side for freshman Ava Irwin, who high-pointed the ball and held on to the ball as she tumbled into the end zone for a 36-yard touchdown reception. A successful conversion pass from sophomore Ava Van Heerde to freshman Tessa Russell made it 7-0. Orange Lutheran responded with a touchdown on their ensuing drive and then grabbed a 13-7 lead with 5:33 left in the first half.
