MUSTANGS EDGE LIONS IN SUDDEN DEATH OT: The jserra_boys_water_polo team saw its’ run in the CIF-SS Open Division playoffs come to a tough ending on Saturday, as the Lions were defeated by the visiting Mira Costa Mustangs 14-13 in sudden death overtime in an Open Division Crossover Game at JSerra Catholic High School. The Lions finish with a record of 20-12. Mira Costa jumped out to a 3-1 lead just past the midway point of the first period, but goals from junior Luke Lee, sophomore Andrew Schneider, and senior Connor Colman propelled the Lions to a 4-3 lead at the end of the quarter. Colman’s second goal pushed the Lions advantage to 5-3 early in the second period, but the Mustangs fought back with three straight goals to take a 6-5 lead. Sophomore Lars Knepper tied the contest at 6-6 with 44 seconds left in the half, but the Mustangs answered with a goal on their ensuing possession to take a 7-6 lead at the intermission.
