Today marks the reopening of our jaguar habitat in the Primates/South America Building as we welcome Diego, a striking male jaguar and the newest member of your Birmingham Zoo family. , Born on January 24, 2017, Diego has already made a significant impact on the Jaguar Species Survival Plan (SSP), a collaborative program dedicated to ensuring a healthy, sustainable jaguar population in human care. Before arriving in Birmingham, Diego lived at Elmwood Park Zoo and later at the Memphis Zoo, where he successfully fathered two cubs, an important contribution to the species’ conservation efforts.
