I blew a dive for 2’s, struggled with the massive bruise to my ego for the next two rounds and finally decided enough was enough… I’m very stubborn. It’s my greatest strength and weakness all at the same time. During this prelim, it bit me hard. I was angry and embarrassed, and I refused to let those emotions go. Instead I let them continue to spiral me into darkness. Because this was to be my final year of diving, my final bid for another Olympic gold, my final year doing what I loved… and my bull headedness to force it to be what I thought it should be was back firing big time. So do you know what I did the moment before this dive? I let it all go. I realized I couldn’t manhandle the results into what I wanted them to be, I certainly wasn’t having fun, and this wasn’t how I wanted to leave things.
