People have always told me, “You must have sacrificed so much to accomplish what you have.”
I’ve always thought that was a weird comment.
Yes I went to competitions instead of floating the river with friends.
Yes I trained during breaks when others took vacations.
Yes I left high school my final semester because they wouldn’t allow me enough days off to attend the international meets I qualified for.
Yes I left a full college scholarship to attempt to make the Olympic Team.
Yes I opted for no surgery and to endure pain for that same Olympic pursuit.
Yes, I chose to go off roading instead of taking the easy, smooth, straight forward path.
But I CHOSE that.
I never felt like
it was a sacrifice. It was what I WANTED to do.
And it’s not that I never had opportunities to do fun things, it’s just that what I CHOSE was more fun and exciting to me.
I made well thought out decisions in each one of those circumstances.
