Myth
#1 about Mindset Coaching:
“It’s shameful to need mindset coaching. Athletes are supposed to just be mentally tough.”
This is such a load of garbage.
First thing to understand:
when people say “mentally tough” talking about athletes, they usually mean words like confident, courageous, or resilient.
Being “mentally tough” is a learned behavior. Yes, someone people are naturally better at it than others just like everything else in life. But if you’re not naturally good at it or some aspect of it, that doesn’t mean you can’t learn to be become “tough”.
I’ve coached athletes on mindset from ages 10-74 and was an elite athlete myself for nearly 30 years. We all experience different challenges at different times in our lives.
Sometimes we just need someone to help redirect us, see it from a new perspective, or help us recognize what exactly we’re going through so we can handle it the best.
